What a perfectly enjoyable past few days I've had. My first waitressing shift on Friday was crazy -- SOOO many tourists. And I volunteered to go in on Saturday afternoon for a few hours because they were going to be super short-staffed. That shift turned out to be a nightmare... Enough to make me want to quit! The entire restaurant was packed, which meant we had about a ten tables per waitress on shift. We had no hostess, so people were just seating themselves, and then getting up to leave when nobody came to serve them. The worst part, though, was that there was only one guy in the kitchen, so he had about a half-hour backup, which was pissing patrons off even more. Suffice it to say that tips weren't exactly great. Still, I've been averaging about twenty dollars an hour, which isn't too shabby. And I wasn't letting people's anger get to me... I did what I could do to make them happy, everything short of going into the kitchen and cooking myself. It was just too crazy. But I made it out alive, and it will get a whole lot easier after October, so I'm not too worried about it.

After work on Saturday, I went home and slept off my headache and aching feet. So that meant I was a little late for the pub crawl I was supposed to be going on in Brighton. It started at six, but I finally showed up around seven-thirty, at the second stop. It was a fun night. I spent the whole night hanging out with my classmate Erin, and my older brother and his new woman and her friends, and eventually my baby brother and a friend of his. I met a bunch of new people, and had a fun time. Not the best pub crawl I've ever been on, but certainly a good time. I think there were just too many people to get to really mingle and meet everyone. I'd say there were about a hundred people, so it was crazy. Plus, on top of that, we were out during game three of the ALCS series, so the bars were full anyway, which made it a little more difficult to get around. Oh, well.

And speaking of the Red Sox, Sunday night I was lucky enough to attend game four! Which was supposed to be game five, but Friday's game was moved to last night. Man, was that a good time... I was having a little trouble finding a fourth person to come, because two of the friends I asked couldn't foot the $150 for the ticket. But it ended up working out really well. I went with my friend Mike and my cousin Dan. I was just planning on scalping the ticket, but on the way in, my cousin called and wanted to know if I still had it. Turns out, his buddy was supposed to be getting a ticket from somebody else, but this guy's bastard friend sold the ticket on him. It all worked out for the best -- we had an awesome time. Unfortunately, my cousin and his buddy had to take off early to catch the T back home. I let him have it through text messages, though. But Mike and I stayed until the very end, and then some. I was freezing my ass off, despite four layers, but it was worth every second. What an amazing experience.

I had driven in to the game and parked at Kendall Square, thinking for some naive reason that I would be able to drive home afterward. Well, at two-thirty, by the time I made it back to my car, that was not an option. Luckily, Will had left his phone on, and invited me to crash back at Gina's place in Brighton. Needless to say, it was an offer I couldn't refuse. So I headed back there and finally crashed around three. I had planned on skipping my Monday morning class ahead of time (I get one free pass this semester, and I think that was a pretty good excuse...), so I left her place around ten and headed back home. Then, just as I was walking in the door, I get a text message that my afternoon class was cancelled. Sweet! Things were just getting better and better!!! The reason this was especially great was that I had a date last night. A blind date, sort of (not really, but I'm not going to bother explaining it). So this class being cancelled meant that I could sleep for another hour and a half and actually be rested to meet my new friend.

Let me just tell you, last night was the icing on the cake for this weekend (even though it was technically the start of the week). This guy and I had emailed back and forth a few times, and decided last week that we would go out last night. And then the game was postponed on Friday, and I told him that I would absolutely have to watch the game if it was to take place. So he said, sure, let's get together and watch the game. He's not from around here originally, so I thought that was very generous of him. And honestly, I might not have given him a first date if he hadn't agreed to watch the game with me! Priorities, people... :) We met up in Back Bay just as the game was starting, and ended up hanging out for the entire night. I don't think either one of us went into it thinking of the evening as a "date," per se, rather we were just going to get together and hang out and watch the game. And as the evening wore on (and on and on and on... fourteen innings, goddammit!), I realized we weren't paying attention to the game, just catching the good plays when people would yell or cheer and pull our attention back to the tv. The conversation was so easy, and the chemistry was so comfortable. I was truly surprised at how well things went. Before the game had even ended, we had made plans for another date next week. We did stay until the end (of course!), but left shortly after. I made it to North Station to catch the last train in plenty of time, and I went to sleep last night with a smile on my face for the first time in a very, very long time.

Right now, all I have to say is GO SOX, and cheers to good company.

12:20am Update: Oh. My. God. My week just keeps getting better! The Red Sox make history. We're going to game seven! As my friend Rob says, Yankees are trash. It was an ugly, ugly day for New York baseball the second those police lined up on that field, and that's the image that's going to be all over the papers tomorrow. A-Rod showed his true colors tonight, the egotistical prick, and the Yankees fans did, too. Man, do I love October. As my classmate Jason voiced today, I may just fail out of school because of baseball...

12:30am, 10/21/04: And yet another Update: Holy. Fucking. Shit. This is just too much to process right now. The Red Sox have beat all odds to make it to the World Series. And I'm not going to sleep for the next week and a half. I just can't deal with this right now. It's too good to be true! I need to sleep, so that I can make it through my day tomorrow. Go Fucking Red Sox! Nevermind that I actually have tickets to the World Series. I can't really do anything with that right now. Tomorrow will be time enough to deal with all of this...
