2005-07-19 - 2:40 p.m. I was sitting on my back porch on Saturday afternoon, playing Scrabble with NB, and we both had crappy sets of letters. So I’m arranging and re-arranging, trying to come up with a word that ends in “E” when all I have are consonants and one “I.” NB had the opposite problem – all vowels and one “D.” Then I realize I can make only one word… minge. And I practically fell out of my chair laughing. You’d get it if you watched the second season of The Office. I didn’t end up using it, unfortunately, because I didn’t realize at the time it had other meanings. What a shame. The last few stretches of hot weather, I’ve been absolutely miserable. I’m more of a cold weather person (it’s SO much easier just to throw on another layer), so the couple of stretches we’ve had of hot and/or humid weather so far this summer had me bitching and moaning about the heat. My mom was able to reframe the whole thing for me yesterday, though. I walked downstairs in the morning, and it was 80 degrees, and the dewpoint was around 70. We were in the midst of a torrential downpour, and as I greeted my mom, she says “It’s like we’re in the tropics!” Precisely! That was all I needed to change my attitude. Honestly – people pay to go on vacations where the weather is exactly like this. What business do I have complaining about it? So last night I put on the least amount of clothing I could get away with, and I went to the Sox game with NB, Lizz, and Vanessa. I sweat my ass off, and I loved it. Even today, with the temperature at 87 and the dewpoint at 73, I feel completely at ease with the heat. I’m not exactly comfortable, mind you, but I’m not complaining either. That little bit of attitude adjustment was just what I needed, and not a moment too soon – the weather’s supposed to be keeping it up for the next seven days or so. Now if only my mom could do the same thing for my procrastination…
